Michael Hamlyn’s Specific Films (the outfit behind Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert) is planning to begin production early next year on its new $4 million feature Indian Summer.

The film, which is to be written and directed by Brian Ward, will shoot in the Highlands. Kevin McKidd [pictured] and Ashley Jensen are attached. Further cast is expected to be announced shortly. The film is billed as “a bittersweet romance about love, life and identity, set in a remote farm in the Scottish Highlands in the summer of 1967.”

Iain Brown is to produce. A sales agent is expected to be confirmed shortly and the project is likely to be presented to buyers at the AFM.

“We are well advanced in the financing of it. We are just trying to get everything lined up so next spring we can go into prep and start shooting next May,” Brown commented.

Mike Kelt and Joanna Dewar Gibb of Artem are on board as executive producers.

Brown has now joined forces with Specific Films. He and Hamlyn worked together extensively on music films in the 1980s, among them Phil Joanou’s U2: Rattle And Hum.

Specific is also involved in teen action movie The Wonder, to be shot in New Zealand and China.

Meanwhile, Brown is working with Scottish actor comedian Jack Docherty on comedy Not A Cloud In The Sky. He is also planning a TV drama version of Alasdair Gray’s classic novel Lanark and a feature film version of Gray’s 1992 novel Poor Things. These projects are all now being made through Specific.

Hamlyn has been heavily involved in putting on the stage version of Priscilla, which has been performed all over the world.
