UK auteur Nicolas Roeg and producer Mark Shivas are to return to the sorcery and children brew of their 1990 Roald Dahl adaptation, The Witches.

Shivas is in Cannes this week to meet with potential partners for Rock Concert, a tentatively titled contemporary take on the Orpheus and Eurydice myth in which a ten year-old violinist meets a witch in his local sweet shop.

Shivas aims to shoot the fantastical drama in Iceland from a script by Harriet Harper. Leading composer Hans Zimmer has agreed to score the film.

Shivas this month achieved the unusual distinction of having a film and a TV drama from the same director - Tim Fywell's I Capture The Castle and Cambridge Spies - come out on the same day.

He is also casting an adaptation of the book An Instance Of The Fingerpost, a medieval murder mystery to be directed by Howard Davies. Meanwhile, Angela's Ashes and Possession writer Laura Jones has adapted the book Miss Garnet's Angel.
