Catherine Zeta-Jones' Milkwood Films has teamed with UK National Lottery franchise Pathe Pictures and Starboard Entertainment to develop and produce a feature based on the stage play Getting And Spending.

The romantic comedy, written for the stage by Michael J Chepiga, will be developed and produced as a starring vehicle for Zeta-Jones.

Milkwood's David A Jones is producing with Starboard partners Barry Quart and Peter "Gaga" Antonijevic. Broadway producer Marty Markinson will serve as executive producer.

"I am looking forward to collaborating with Pathe and Starboard on this project," said Catherine Zeta-Jones. "I have had a long time interest in the material and am looking forward to its fruition."

The story revolves around Victoria, a woman who plays the financial markets and spends the proceeds supporting various charities. When she is suddenly accused of insider trading, she has to persuade the top defense lawyer to leave the monastery which he has just checked himself into in order to reassess his life.

"We are confident that Michael's stage play will be the foundation of a wonderfully clever romantic comedy, which will provide a perfect role for Catherine Zeta-Jones", said Francois Ivernel, managing director of Pathe UK.

Zeta-Jones' upcoming releases include the Coen Brother's Intolerable Cruelty and DreamWorks' animated feature Sinbad. Current Pathe productions include Jane Campion's In The Cut, Girl With A Pearl Earring and Danny Boyle's Millions.
