Director Paul Breuls has started production on The Hessen Affair, a WWII-era thriller starring Billy Zane, Lyne Renee, Michael Bowen and Noah Segan.

Corsan, the Belgian company Breuls runs, is producing with Phyllis Laing's Buffalo Gal Pictures co-producing. Corsan is also handling international sales.

Nicholas Meyer and Ronald Roose wrote the screenplay, based on actual events, about Americans in 1945 Germany who make plans to steal the country's crown jewels.

Bruels makes his directorial debut with the project, which is shooting now in Winnipeg, Canada through Dec 15 before moving to Belgium in January.

Breuls said: 'Everything about this film excites me, starting with a brilliant script that will translate into what we believe will be a very special film.'
