Dimension Films has begun production on Superhero, a comedy written and directed by Craig Mazin who directed both Scary Movie 3 and Scary Movie 4 for the company.
An ensemble cast has been assembled for the film including Drake Bell, Sara Paxton, Christopher McDonald, Leslie Nielsen, Kevin Hart, Marion Ross, Ryan Hansen, Jeffrey Tambor and Brent Spiner.
David Zucker, who was behind The Naked Gun and Airplane films, will produce with Robert K Weiss.
Dimension's Bob Weinstein announced that the film will be released in North America on March 28, 2008.
Superhero will follow in the footsteps of Scary Movie, Airplane and Naked Gun in spoofing the conventions of the superhero movie genre.
'With this great script and this talented team, we are confident that this will launch another franchise for us,' said Weinstein. 'We are releasing the movie on March 28th and we anticipate it will be our widest release ever.'
