Glen Basner’s FilmNation has boarded sales rights ahead of Cannes to the Australian romantic comedy I Love You Too.

The film stars Brendan Cowell as an emotionally stunted young man who cannot declare his love for his girlfriend until he meets a talented stranger.

Yvonne Strahovski, Peter Dinklage and newcomer Megan Gale round out the key cast. Daina Reid directed from a screenplay by comedian Peter Helliar.

Basner will screen I Love You Too for buyers in Cannes and the film opens in Australian theatres on May 6 through Village Roadshow, which also holds New Zealand rights. Princess Pictures’ Laura Waters and Yael Bergman produced.

“This is a film filled with plenty of laughs, but also plenty of heart,” Basner said. “We’re proud to add this to our slate at Cannes and to collaborate with our good friends at Roadshow Films.”

“We are thrilled that FilmNation have added I Love You Too to their impressive slate,” Roadshow Films managing director Joel Pearlman said. “They have quickly emerged as one of the primary suppliers of commercial and quality films to distributors around the world and we are excited that they will be bringing I Love You Too to the international marketplace.”

FilmNation’s Cannes slate includes The Oranges and the Untitled Terrence Malick project.
