IFC Films has picked up North American, Asian, Middle Eastern and East central European rights to Aaron Katz’s mystery Cold Weather.

Visit Films has acquired sales rights for the rest of the world as well as international festival rights, and will introduce the film to buyers in Cannes.

Cold Weather premiered at SXSW and stars Cris Lankenau as a man who returns to his Oregon homestead to live with his sister and enlists her help and that of a friend to investigate the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend. Trieste Kelly Dunn and Raul Castillo round out the key cast.

Brendan McFadden, Ben Stambler, and Parts & Labor’s Lars Knudsen and Jay Van Hoy produced.

Cold Weather will screen at the Los Angeles Film Festival and BAMCinemaFest. IFC Films will release through its IFC In Theaters day-and-date theatrical and VOD pipeline.

“We’ve always been fans of Aaron Katz’s work but, with Cold Weather, he has made a great step forward as a film-maker,” IFC Entertainment president Jonathan Sehring said.

“It’s great fun to see him play with the detective-mystery genre and he’s aided by a wonderful cast and fantastic creative team.

Katz’s previous films were Dance Party, USA, and Quiet City.

Jeff Deutchman negotiated the deal for IFC Films with Stambler on behalf of the film-makers.
