IFC has acquired US rights to John Krasinski’s feature directorial debut Brief Interviews With Hideous Men based on short stories by the late David Foster Wallace.

The distributor plans a simultaneous theatrical and VOD release on September 25 release through its IFC In Theaters platform. It will also go through the in-store, mail subscription and downloading deal with Blockbuster.

Krasinski adapted the stories and stars alongside Julianne Nicholson as a graduate student who interviews men for her thesis paper.

They are joined by Timothy Hutton, Will Arnett, Dominic Cooper, Bobby Cannavale, Christopher Meloni, Max Minghella and Ben Shenkmen.

Brief Interviews With Hideous Men premiered at Sundance and was produced by Eva Kolodner, Yael Melamede, James Suskin and Krasinski. Kevin Connors is executive producer.

IFC’s vice-president of acquisitions and co-productions Arianna Bocco negotiated the rights with CAA.
