The distributor has pounced on North American rights from Doc&Film International to Leyla Bouzid’s debut one week before its US premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival.
As I Open My Eyes will premiere on April 14 and won the Europa Cinemas Label prize as best European film in Venice Days.
The story takes place in Tunisia in 2010, a few months before the revolution, as a young Tunisian woman falls for the singer of a politically charged rock band.
The film will also play at COLCOA and the San Francisco International Film Festival.
Kino Lorber will open on September 9 in New York and release on digital and home entertainment in early 2017.
