Distant Horizon president Anant Singh announced on Friday [10] that The Weinstein Company will launch sales in Cannes on the live-action project.
TWC has acquired world rights excluding the US, South Africa and India to the remake of Yasuomi Umetsu’s original Japanese anime about a young woman in corrupt South Africa who vows to avenge the murder of her father.
Production on the remake has just wrapped in Johannesburg, South Africa, and stars Samuel L Jackson, India Eisley and Callan McAuliffe.
Ralph Ziman directs and Singh and Distant Horizon’s Brian Cox produce with Detalle Films’ Moises Cosio and Alberto Muffelmann serving as co-producers.
Singh and Alan Grodin of the law firm Weintraub Tobin Chediak Coleman Grodin negotiated the deal for Distant Horizon with TWC COO David Glasser, Michal Steinberg and Michael Rothstein.
