Universal Pictures has set the release date for its follow-up to this year’s micro-budget horror hit.
The Purge 2 will open on June 20 2014.
Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum and Sébastien K Lemercier return to produce alongside Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. Writer-director James DeMonaco also reprises his role.
The original opened on June 7 and grossed $64.5m in North America, rising to $89.3m worldwide.
Carl Fry, Maxwell Nalevansky co-directed.
Pathé handles international sales and will also distribute in France and Switzerland.
A lack of big US releases caused the year-on-year dip.
