Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert’s horror genre label Ghost House Pictures is launching a new production arm, Spooky Pictures, to produce scary movies aimed at family audiences.

The first project under the new label will be The Substitute, a remake of Ole Bornedal’s 2007 Danish thriller of the same name. Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism Of Emily Rose) will direct the project, which is being co-financed and distributed domestically by Columbia Pictures. Columbia will have a first-look on further films from the label.

Derrickson is writing the script with Paul Harris Boardman, who also co-wrote The Exorcism OF Emily Rose.The Substitute follows a terrified 6th grade class as they race to reveal to their parents that their new substitute teacher is an evil alien.

Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert will produce through Spooky Pictures. Russell Hollander and Nathan Kahane will serve as executive producers, alongside the original film’s director Ole Bornedal and producer Michael Obel, for Thura Films.
