Icon Film Distribution plans an Oct 1 UK release for Rodrigo Cortes’ thriller Buried.
Icon bought the UK rights from Gregoire Melin’s sales outfit Kinology at AFM. The film secured a raft of deals after premiering at Sundance. Lionsgate will distribute in US from Sept 24.
Buried follows a US contractor (Ryan Reynolds) in Iraq who wakes up to find himself buried alive in a coffin with only a lighter and a mobile phone.
The film is produced by Adrian Guerra for Versus Entertainment and Peter Safran for The Safran Company.
Icon’s Head of Acquisitions, Toby Hill, told Screen: “Rodrigo Cortes has made a genuinely thrilling and suspenseful film. It’s a daring concept brilliantly executed.”
