Veteran US producer Mike Medavoy to receive Locarno Film Festival’s Raimondo Rezzonico Prize

Veteran US producer Mike Medavoy is to receive Locarno’s prestigious Raimondo Rezzonico Prize which highlights the work of major independent film producers.
 
This August, the film festival will screen a selection of films from Medavoy’s career of over 40 years as studio head and film producer, including One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Apocalypse Now, Dances with Wolves and Black Swan. In addition, Medavoy will give a public masterclass about his work as producer.
 
Commenting on the choice of Medavoy for the prize, Locarno’s artistic director Olivier Père described him as “a producer with the courage of his convictions, brilliantly demonstrated by his long term and untiring support for the best American auteurs, up until the success of Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan. We are proud to pay tribute to a personality of his stature.”
 
Previous recipients of the Reimondo Rezzonico Prize - named after the festival’s former chairman of 20 years - have included Paulo Branco, Karl Baumgartner, Jeremy Thomas, Christine Vachon, and, most recently, the veteran Israeli producer-director Menahem Golan.
