‘Eklipse’

EXCLUSIVE: Films Boutique has acquired international sales rights on Manuel Wetscher’s feature debut Eklipse, which has just been selected for Venice Film Festival’s Horizons section.

Set in the Tyrolean Alps during the full solar eclipse of August 11, 1999, the film follows Tomy and Chris, two best friends working at an alpine dairy. Chris learns that Tomy’s father is in hospital with ‘the gay disease’, and Tomy is suddenly confronted with rejection and his own family’s silence.

Moritz Hohlrieder, Finley Brown, Hannes Perkmann, Lenz Moretti and Lisa Schutzenberger lead the cast, with a script by Bernhard Jarosh and Wetscher. Eklipse is produced by Bernhard Holzhammer and Victor Kossl for Austria’s Eutopiafilm, in co-production with Italy’s Albolina Film.

Backers include the Austrian Film Institute, OFIplus, ORF Film-Fernsehabkommen, IDM, MIC, CineTirol, and Kultur Tirol. Filmladen will release the film in Austria in spring 2027.

“We are so proud of Manuel Wetscher’s tender first feature, which moved us deeply, telling a sensitive story from a completely new perspective and the point of view of two deeply relatable characters in a very cinematic setting,” said Films Boutique COO Gabor Greiner. “A real discovery of an outstanding new voice from Austria’s magnificent mountains.”

Venice Film Festival runs from September 2-12.
