Funder appointments met with widespread approval.

New funder appointments in Ireland, Austria and Switzerland have been met with widespread approval from their film communities.

The much respected leading Irish media lawyer James Hickey of Matheson Ormsby Prentice has been appointed as the CEO of the Irish Film Board as successor to Simon Perry.

In Austria, Gerlinde Seitner, deputy director of the Austrian Film Institute and responsible for the MEDIA Desk in Austria, has been named as the successor to Dr. Peter Zawrel as head of the Vienna Film Fund. She will take up her post in November 2011.

Meanwhile, Ivo Kummer, head of the Soluthurn Film Days since 1989, beat off competition from more than 50 candidates to succeed the controversial Nicolas Bideau as head of the film section at Switzerland’s Federal Office of Culture (BAK). Kummer will officially take up office on August 1 in time for this year’s Locarno Film Festival.
