
EXCLUSIVE: Boxing drama Giant, which opened Red Sea International Film Festival on Thursday (December 4), has sold to major territories around the world through AGC International.
The film has secured deals for Germany and Switzerland (Capelight), Scandinavia (AB Svensk), Spain (Flins y Piniculas), South Africa (Empire Entertainment), Canada (Sphere Films), Portugal (Nos Lusomundo), Greece (Spentzos), Iceland (Myndform), Israel (United King), Turkey (Fabula Medya A.S.), Baltic states and CIS (Paradise/MGN), Eastern Europe (Daro Film Distribution), Mongolia (Filmbridge), the Philippines (Viva Communications), India (Multivision Multimedia) and the Middle East (Salim Ramia & Co).
Giant had its MENA premiere as Red Sea’s opening night film, presented on stage by director Rowan Athale and star Amir El-Masry.
True Brit Entertainment will release wide in UK-Ireland on January 6 with Vertical handling a US theatrical release in March.
The film tracks the true-life story of British-Yemeni boxer Prince Naseem ‘Naz’ Hamed, from his working-class upbringing in the 1980s, through his tutelage from Irish boxing trainer Brendan Ingle (played by Pierce Brosnan), and rise to world championship titles and international stardom.
Producers are Mark Lane of Tea Shop Productions, Kevin Sampson of White Star Productions, AGC CEO and chairman Stuart Ford, and Ross Williams.
AGC Studios financed the film, with additional backing from BondIt Media Capital. It premiered at BFI London Film Festival in October before landing initial sales at last month’s AFM.
