Akinola Davies Jr, Laura Carreira

My Father’s Shadow filmmaker Akinola Davies Jr and On Falling writer-director Laura Carreira are among the 20 UK participants in the 2025 Bafta Breakthrough programme.

They are joined by Grand Theft Hamlet co-director Pinny Grylls, star of BBC series What It Feels Like For A Girl Ellis Howard and Harvest producer Marie-Elena Dyche.

BAFTA North America will announce the Breakthrough US talent in December.

The emerging talent year-round programme has been running since 2013 (previously known as Breakthrough Brits). Over 330 people have participated in the programme to-date, with alumni including Paapa Essiedu, Josh O’Connor, Jessie Buckley and Letitia Wright. The initiative is supported by Netflix in the UK.
