Annapurna, the US-based production outfit led by Megan Ellison, has hired former New Regency exec Ed Rubin to lead an international TV division.

Rubin will be based out of London and becomes head of international TV, with a remit to create a slate of shows featuring domestic and global talent.

The exec is known for stints at Ridley Scott’s Scott Free and Origin Pictures, with his most recent role being head of international TV at New Regency. He departed the company last summer having shepherding Apple TV drama Prime Target and The Beast Must Die for BritBox.

In his new position, Rubin will work with Annapurna’s vice-president of international film and TV, Skye Optican, in his new role, with former Happy Prince exec Tsedenia Skitch joining as development producer.

Skitch previously worked with Rubin at New Regency.

Ellison, sister of Paramount Skydance chief exec David, founded Annapurna Pictures more than a decade ago and has been behind titles ranging from Zero Dark Thirty and American Hustle to True Grit.

The company suffered during the pandemic and Ellison largely stepped back from the industry, but the company hired Chelsea Barnard and Matthew Budman earlier this year to return as co-heads of film.

US reports suggest further hires are in the works, while Rubin’s international TV division points to a broader push into scripted.
