Universal Pictures International (UPI) has topped this year’s list of distributors nominated for Bafta film awards with 25 nods.
Four Universal titles received nominations; No Time To Die (5), Licorice Pizza (5), Cyrano (4) and House Of Gucci (3) - which were all made and financed by MGM - alongside two from Universal’s Focus Features: Belfast (6) and Last Night In Soho (2). The studio received seven nominations last year. UPI is the distributor of MGM’s films outside the US.
Netflix is in second place with 22 nominations after leading the distributor chart in 2021 and 2020 (with 35 and 23, respectively). The streamers’ nominations were spread across seven titles, with The Power Of The Dog leading the way on eight.
Disney is next with 19, with 10 nominations spread between five Disney titles (led by West Side Story on five), and nine to four Searchlight films.
Fourth on the list is Warner Bros, with 11 of its 16 nominations coming for Dune.
Among independent distributors, Boiling Point and After Love earned Vertigo Pictures and BFI Distribution four nods each. Mubi and Modern Films also received four nominations, with Altitude Film Distribution garnering three.
After scooping its first two nominations last year, AppleTV+ is up to five this time around, with three for Coda, and one each for Swan Song and The Tragedy Of Macbeth.
