The Salt Path and Carol producer Elizabeth Karlsen has been unveiled as the head of the official competition jury at the upcoming 69th BFI London Film Festival (LFF, October 8-19).
Karlsen produces through UK outfit Number 9 Films and is also on the BFI’s board of governors. Joining her on the official competition jury will be The New Yorker film critic Justin Chang and US artist and filmmaker Kahlil Joseph, whose feature BLKNWS: Terms And Conditions world premiered at Sundance earlier this year.
Heading up the first feature competition (Sutherland Award) jury is UK filmmaker Kibwe Tavares, who co-directed LFF 2023 closing night film The Kitchen with Daniel Kaluuya. Tavares is joined by head of programme at the Zurich Film Festival Anja Fröhner and Sudan-UK filmmaker Nadia Latif, whose horror The Man In My Basement premiered at Toronto.
Eloïse King, UK director of LFF 2024 premiere The Shadow Scholars, will lead the jury selecting the winner of the Grierson Award for best documentary. She is joined by US curator Josh Siegel and Australian curator at the ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image) Reece Goodwin.
Former artistic director of the Singapore International Film Festival and international festival consultant Ming-Jung Kuo leads the short film jury, which also features UK-Filipino writer-director and Screen Star of Tomorrow 2025 Matty Crawford and Swiss-UK animation director Lee Ott.
Audiences will also be able to cast their votes in the best feature film and best British feature film categories.
