Mark Cousins’ follow-up to The Story of Film is to feature in this year’s line-up of Cannes Classics.

Cousins’ documentary A Story of Children and Film is an exploration of cinema and childhood as seen through 53 movies - such as E.T. and The Red Balloon - from 25 countries.

HanWay Select has boarded sales on the documentary, after having success selling Cousins’ 15-part documentary The Story of Film: An Odyssey. Producers are Variety journalist Adam Dawtrey and former deputy managing director of Hat Trick Productions Mary Bell.

Backing comes from the BFI and Film4.

HanWay’s Fabien Westerhoff told ScreenDaily: “Following the international phenomenon of The Story Of Film: An Odyssey, we are delighted to team up with Mark Cousins again, who turns his unique, critical eye to youth and childhood in cinema. This is a celebration of all the great kids characters that will entertain audiences, young and old, worldwide.”

As announced previously, Kim Novak will attend the festival to present the restored print of Vertigo by Alfred Hitchcock.

The films selected for the 2013 edition of Cannes Classics will be screened in the company of those who restored the films as well as those directors still alive.

The programme comprises 20 feature-length films and three documentaries.

In honour of the 50^th anniversary of Jean Cocteau’s death, La Belle et la Bete (1946) will be screened as well as Opium (2013), a musical comedy directed by Arielle Dombasle.

Euzhan Palcy’s film, Simeon (1992) will be screened in honour of the 100^th birthday of French poet, author and politican Aimé Césaire.

In tribute to Joanne Woodward, seen with late husband Paul Newman on this year’s Cannes poster, the festival will screen the latest film she has produced: Shepard & Dark (2013), by Treva Wurmfeld.
