‘Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway’

EXCLUSIVE: Trinity CineAsia has secured UK-Ireland distribution rights to Japanese anime Detective Conan: Fallen Angel Of The Highway from TMS Entertainment.

It marks the 29th instalment in the detective anime franchise and is set to open across UK and Irish cinemas on June 12.

The film opened in Japan on April 10 on 526 screens, marking the widest local release in the history of the franchise, and delivered the series’ biggest ever opening weekend, grossing $22m (¥3.5bn) and topping the box office. It also ranked third globally for the April 10-12 weekend from just its single market release.

The Detective Conan franchise has surpassed $64m (¥10bn) in annual box office revenue for four consecutive years and has attracted more than 10 million admissions annually for the past two years.

The story begins when teenage detective Conan Edogawa and his friends head to a motorcycle festival and witness a high-speed chase between a mysterious rider and Kanagawa Traffic Police officer Chihaya Hagiwara.

At the festival, they see the debut of a cutting-edge police motorcycle called “Angel” that resembles the bike from the chase, leading authorities to name it “Lucifer”. As the case deepens, Hagiwara is drawn into memories of her late brother and his colleague, setting the stage for a high-speed confrontation.

The film is directed by Takahiro Hasui (Mob Psycho 100 III), with the screenplay by Takahiro Okura, who previously wrote Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram, The core voice cast is joined by Ryusei Yokohama of box office hit Kokuho and Mei Hata (Blue Lock).

It marks the third Detective Conan feature to be acquired by Trinity CineAsia.

The response to The Million-dollar Pentagram and One-Eyed Flashback has been very positive.”

Producers are Shuho Kondo, Goshi Yoshida and Yuhei Okada.

The films, released annually since 1997, are animated by TMS Entertainment and distributed by Toho. The franchise was launched by manga artist Gosho Aoyama in 1994 with an ongoing manga that now has over 270 million copies in print. There is also a TV anime series that has surpassed 1,100 episodes in over 40 countries.
