The Doha Film Institute (DFI) has struck partnerships with two leading French film schools to offer film, animation and creative training in Qatar.
The DFI has joined with film school La Femis and animation school Gobelins Paris to create programmes of theoretical and practical training in filmmaking and animation. Taking place in Qatar, the programmes will also connect participants with faculty and industry professionals.
The programmes are an indicator of Qatar’s efforts to build up its film industry workforce, following several announcements last weekend of major US companies beginning work in the country. The training programmes have been developed with support from the Institut Francais du Qatar and Qatar Museums.
The La Femis Cinematography Certificate Programme is a four-month training session starting in June 2026, dedicated to young talent who wish to improve their artistic and technical understanding of cinematography.
The Gobelins Paris Animation Certificate Programme introduces emerging artists to the fundamentals of animation, character animation and visual storytelling with structured 9-month training workshops. Planned for September 2026 and consisting of three modules, it complements the DFI’s own ToonBoom certificate.
“Our partnerships with La Femis and Gobelins Paris add to our year-round workshops and mentoring sessions that have, over the years, helped build a thriving creative ecosystem in Qatar and the wider region,” said DFI CEO and Doha Film Festival director Fatma Hassan Alremaihi. “Placing skills, creativity, and hands-on experience at the heart of how we prepare the next generation of storytellers, they are pathways into the industry, bridges to global networks, and catalysts for creativity across our region.”
The inaugural Doha Film Festival closes today, Friday November 28.
