The composers of Dune, Succession and The Power Of The Dog are among this year’s nominees for the 22nd edition of the World Soundtrack Awards (WSA) as the first wave of nominations are unveiled.
The winners will be announced on October 22 at the Film Fest Ghent in Belgium, during which the annual celebration of film music is held.
Hans Zimmer is nominated for film composer of the year for the eighth time for his work on No Time To Die, Dune and The Survivor. The German composer last won in 2010 with best original soundtrack for Inception.

Daniel Pemberton, who won film composer of the year last year, has been nominated again this year for his scores for The Rescue, Being The Ricardos, The Bad Guys and Brian And Charles.
Also nominated in the category are Jonny Greenwood for The Power Of The Dog and Spencer and Germaine Franco for her work on Disney’s Encanto.
In 2021, Franco made history as the first woman to score a Disney animated film and she is one of two female composers nominated in the awards this year – the other being Natalie Holt who co-composed Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi with John Williams. Both are nominated for television composer of the year.
Succession’s Nicholas Britell has been nominated once again for his work on the hit HBO series, having previously won the television composer of the year award in 2020. The composers of Squid Game, Severance, White Lotus and Moon Knight have also been recognised.
For the first time ever, a TV series, Apple TV+’s Slow Horses, has been nominated in the best original song category after eligibility rules were updated in 2021.
The song ‘Strange Game’, written by Daniel Pemberton and Mick Jagger and performed by Jagger, will be competing against the likes of Billie Eilish’s ‘No Time To Die’ from the latest James Bond instalment and Top Gun: Maverick track ‘Hold My Hand’ performed by Lady Gaga.
