EXCLUSIVE: Production is underway in Northern Ireland on Brian Kelly’s survival thriller No Way Off starring Maria Bakalova.
Set over the course of one Christmas Eve night, the film follows exhausted single mother Nadya and her young child who fall asleep on the bus home. They wake hours later to find themselves abducted by the driver; and as the bus heads into the wilderness, the ride becomes a fight for survival testing everything Nadya has.
Altitude handles worldwide sales on the title, which it is presenting to buyers at this week’s European Film Market (EFM, February 12-18).
Hamnet and House Of Guiness star David Wilmot, and Outlander’s Andrew Gower are on the cast alongside Bakalova.
No Way Off is written by Gaby Hull, and produced by Matthew James Wilkinson of the UK’s Stigma Films, and Jamie Harvey. Laura Rister is executive producer through her company Esme Grace, which is financing the film alongside Head Gear Films, Northern Ireland Screen, OnSight and Altitude. Head Gear Films packaged the project, with Phil Hunt, Compton Ross and Charlie Kemball as executive producers.
The film is shooting on location in Northern Ireland and at new virtual production facility Studio Ulster in Belfast. Rister is co-representing North American rights with Altitude.
Wilkinson’s Stigma Films was named in Screen’s Brit50 list of the top UK independent production companies in November last year.
