Focus Features has scheduled an October 24 limited release followed by wide expansion on October 31 for Yorgos Lanthimos’s Bugonia starring Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons.
The awards corridor date suggests a world premiere slot at a fall festival is in the film’s future. Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone round out the key cast on Lanthimos’s follow-up to last year’s Kinds Of Kindness, which also starred Stone and Plemons.
Bugonia follows two conspiracy-obsessed young men who kidnap the CEO of a major company, convinced she is an alien intent on destroying Planet Earth. Lanthimos directs from a screenplay by Will Tracy, whose recent credits include The Menu and Succession.
The week-long limited engagement will feature screenings of the film, which shot in VistaVision, at select locations in New York and Los Angeles.
The film is produced by Element Pictures’ Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe, Lanthimos through Pith, Stone via Fruit Tree, Square Peg’s Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen, and CJ ENM’s Miky Lee and Jerry Kyoungboum Ko.
Stone won one of her two lead actress Oscar for Lanthimos’s Poor Things in 2024. The other was for La La Land in 2017.
