EXCLUSIVE: Film Sales Company (FSC) will begin talks with buyers in Cannes on the thriller Pretty Ugly starring Mary Stuart Masterson, Nicola Peltz-Beckham, and Jazzy De Lister.
Erica Dunton, whose directing credits include episodes of Ted Lasso, Dexter: Resurrection, and the feature To Get Her, wrote and directs the story of a cosmetology student in smalltown America who crosses paths on social media with a prolific influencer from her hometown, resulting in an obsessive, sexually-charged relationship. Will McCance served as producer.
“I have worked consistently with Erica and love her work,” said FSC president Andrew Herwitz, who will screen the film at the market in Cannes. “In Pretty Ugly she has created a fast-paced, bold, and timely film that taps into the psychology of online identity.
“With its strong female leads and a potent mix of erotic tension and visceral, shocking set pieces, I expect the film will connect with audiences worldwide, playing strongly across multiple markets.”
