The previously announced French-Ukrainian co-production is now due to start shoot in December 2017 and has already sold to Germany, France, UK and CIS.

The Last Step is the story of Henry (Reno), a legendary hitman enjoying the isolation of his lakeside cabin set deep within the Canadian wilderness. When the solitude of a well-earned retirement is broken by the arrival of a young woman (Lind), the survivor of a massive snowmobile accident, Henry must decide whether to risk his own life to save hers.

The film is written and directed by Frederic Petitjean (Madame Irma) and produced by Laurent Tolleron (Frontiers) for Seven 52 and Corinne Benichou and Florence Moos for Eight 35.

The film is co-produced in France by Lagardere Studio and in Ukraine by Olias Barco and Oleg German with East West Productions and made with the support of the Ukrainian State Film Agency.

Pascal Degove, managing director of Goldcrest Films noted: “The Last Step is just the perfect project for international audiences. Jean Reno is an iconic talent and this is a commercial genre which has delivered some of his most loved performances.”

Frederic Petitjean, director said: “The Last Step is the story of one man facing up to his own fears. What is exciting for audiences is how this harsh wilderness becomes a brutal and unforgiving nemesis. It’s a breath-taking game of chess played out on an epic scale.”

Corinne Benichou and Florence Moos added: “As producers it’s very rewarding to be able to assemble your dream cast. As movie goers we’ve always loved Jean Reno in Leon. All the elements are in place for a spectacular big screen telling of Frederic’s edgy thrilling script.”

The film’s sales were previously handled by Moviehouse.
