‘Director’s Diary’

EXCLUSIVE: Films Boutique has boarded sales rights on Aleksandr Sokurov’s Director’s Diary, ahead of its world premiere out of competition at Venice Film Festival next week.

The film will have its debut on Thursday, August 28 at the PalaBiennale venue.

Documentary Director’s Diary runs to 305 minutes. The synopsis from the film team describes it as ‘a unique reading of the history of the second half of the twentieth century.’

The Russian-language film is produced by Sokurov and Alena Sumakova for Russia’s Example of Intonation Foundation, with Paolo Maria Spina for Revolver and Giuseppe Lepore for Bielle Re, both of Italy.

Sokurov won the Golden Lion at Venice in 2011 for Faust, also sold by Films Boutique.

Director’s Diary joins a Films Boutique slate that includes three other Venice titles: Ildiko Enyedi’s Venice Competition title Silent Friend, Jaume Claret Muxart’s Horizons entry Strange River, and Maryam Touzani’s Spotlight title Calle Malaga; plus Agnieszka Holland’s Toronto premiere Franz

“Our recent successes with films such as The Seed of the Sacred Fig or Cannes Camera D’Or winner The President’s Cake gave us even more energy to fight for bold and innovative films as they prove that unique films can also work commercially and appeal to distributors and international audiences,” said Jean-Christophe Simon, Films Boutique CEO.

“We are proud to come to the fall festivals with one of our strongest line up to date.”
