EXCLUSIVE: Finnish outfit The Yellow Affair has boarded world sales on Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) competition title On The Sea, directed by UK filmmaker Helen Walsh.
It is the sophomore feature from Walsh, who previously directed EIFF 2015 title The Violators, and was selected as part of the BFI and British Council Cannes Great 8 showcase.
On The Sea is described as an exploration of masculinity and desire in a remote but beautiful fishing community.
Jack, a hand raker on the mussel beds in North Wales, assumes his son will join the family business on leaving school, but the son’s resistance to follow in his footsteps causes familial tension. Tensions are further inflamed by the arrival of an itinerant deckhand, who makes his feelings known for Jack. In this remote, rural community where life revolves around church and fishery, Jack is faced with an impossible dilemma.
Barry Ward, Lorne MacFadyen, Liz White, Henry Lawfull, Celyn Jones and Danny Webb star. It is produced by David Moores and David A. Hughes for Merseyside-based Red Union Films, with Chris Clark and Mike Goodridge serving as executive producers and funded through private equity.
On The Sea will world premiere at EIFF (August 14-20), where it is one of 10 films competing for the £50,000 Sean Connery prize for feature filmmaking excellence.
