EXCLUSIVE: New details have emerged on the upcoming John Woo and Nicolas Cage crime biopic Gambino that reunites the Windtalkers and Face/Off director and star.
Entertainment and sports entrepreneur Gils Aubry’s Icarus Entertainment Fund is teaming up with the $100m NextG Brothers Fund launched by Cassian Elwes and Chinese tech entrepreneur and NextG founder in Cannes 2024.
The partners are positioning Gambino as the first in a slate of eight features and aim to build an Atlanta-based one-stop-shop for production financing, production, and post-production.
“We’ve been building this [Gambino] for three years,” Zeng told Screen. “We want to make the most high-impact movie and bring people back to the theatre.”
Production on the $40m Gambino is being lined up for a summer start in Atlanta, Georgia, and will also take place in New Jersey, New York, and Sicily. The story follows Carlo Gambino, the Mafia boss who ran the crime family in New York until his death in 1976.
Nick Vallelonga, the Oscar-winning co-writer and producer of Green Book, and Midnight Run writer George Gallo co-wrote the screenplay and join Elwes and Zeng as producers.
Zeng and Aubry are executive producers alongside Walter Joston.
