Industry veteran Lia Buman has been appointed as the head of Paramount global acquisitions and Republic Pictures as the studio plans to “significantly” expand its global acquisitions pipeline.
The Tango co-founder and former president of acquisitions at Focus Features, EVP of acquisitions at FilmDistrict and VP of acquisitions at Sony Pictures reports to Paramount Pictures co-chairs Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein.
Buman will lead an expanded worldwide acquisitions and co-production strategy encompassing global theatrical releases, split-rights deals, multi-territory partnerships, and a range of bespoke opportunities across the independent marketplace.
She will also oversee Republic Pictures as a “targeted development and production label within Paramount” set up to champion commercially-driven films “with strong independent DNA” to complement and expand the studio’s acquisitions slate.
Reporting to Buman is Sejin Croninger, EVP, worldwide acquisitions, strategy and operations, who will continue to drive global acquisitions efforts and oversee the life of a film across Paramount’s distribution infrastructure.
Max Silva has been named SVP, production & development, Republic Pictures, and also joins from Tango, the company Buman co-founded with Tim Headington in 2017 and where she oversaw production of nearly 30 films including Sundance 2025 hits Together from Michael Shanks and Sorry, Baby from Eva Victor, as well as Charlotte Wells’s Aftersun.
