A24’s Marty Supreme is to receive a theatrical release in China through China Film Group, supported by promotion from Wanda Film.
It will mark the first release in China for a film starring Timothée Chalamet since Dune: Part Two in 2024, which was also handled by Wanda Film and earned $49m in the country. A release date has yet to be revealed.
The nine-time Oscar nominated film, directed by Josh Safdie, is A24’s highest-grossing release in the US with $90.9m and is on track to become the company’s biggest global success to date.
The film had taken $133.4m worldwide as of February 1 and is set to unseat A24’s previous highest-grossing title, Everything Everywhere All At Once, which took $142.8m following its release in 2022 and went on to win seven Oscars including best picture.
Chalamet, who also produced the film, stars as Marty Mauser, a table tennis player and hustler whose self-destructive behaviour consistently derails his dreams of fame and fortune. Chalamet has received a best actor nomination at the upcoming Oscars for his performance.
“Producing Marty Supreme has been a deeply meaningful experience for me, and I’m genuinely thrilled to be working with Wanda Film to bring the film to audiences in China,” said Chalamet, who produced the film alongside Safdie, Ronald Bronstein, Eli Bush and Anthony Katagas. “I can’t wait for Chinese audiences to experience Marty Supreme and to be part of its continued journey around the world.”
