
Neon has acquired US rights from FilmNation to Jeff Nichols’ Southern Gothic horror King Snake that has begun production in Arkansas and stars Margaret Qualley, Michael Shannon, and Drew Starkey.
Nichols and his Tri-State Pictures partners Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Sarah Green are producing in association with Range Media Partners.
King Snake follows a young couple who inherit a farm and must confront the property’s dark legacy. FilmNation is fully financing the feature and handles worldwide sales. The company’s Stacey Snider and Glen Basner are executive producers.
Neon, FilmNation Entertainment, and Range Media Partners brokered the deal. Neon heads to Cannes with eight films in selection: James Gray’s Paper Tiger, Arthur Harari’s The Unknown, Cristian Mungiu’s Fjord, Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s All Of A Sudden, Hirokazu Koreeda’s Sheep In The Box, and Na Hong-Jin’s Hope in Competition; Arie Esiri & Chuko Esiri’s Clarissa and David Greaves’ Sundance premiere Once Upon A Time In Harlem in Directors’ Fortnight; and Nicolas Winding Refn’s Her Private Hell out of competition.
