Netflix has acquired the UK, Germany and Benelux rights for Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut and Venice premiere The Lost Daughter from Entertainment One (eOne).

Endeavour Content had previously pre-sold the rights in these territories to eOne at the European Film Market in 2020.

The film has also sold to South Africa (Empire), Greece (Spentzos), Iceland (Sena), Italy (Bim), Spain (Vertigo), Portugal (Nos Lusomundo), Scandinavia (Svensk), Indonesia (Falcon), South Korea (Green Narae) and Middle East (Salim Ramia).

Netflix has the rights in all remaining worldwide territories, including the US.

The feature stars Olivia Colman, Jessie Buckley, Dakota Johnson, Peter Sarsgaard and former Screen Star of Tomorrow Paul Mescal, and follows a woman’s Greek vacation as it takes a sinister turn, unwinding across two timelines. Gyllenhaal adapted the script from Elena Ferrante’s 2006 novel of the same name and the film won the best screenplay award at Venice.

Alongside Gyllenhaal, it is produced by Talia Kleinhendler and Osnat Handelsman-Keren for Pie Films, Charles Dorfman for Samuel Marshall Films and Endeavor Content.

The Lost Daughter will be released in Netflix’s territories in select theatres on December 17 and on the streamer on December 31.
