US director and screenwriter Noah Baumbach is to be honoured at the Zurich Film Festival (ZFF), which runs from September 25-October 5.
Baumbach will be presented with A Tribute To… Award on September 26 during the gala premiere of his new film Jay Kelly. Baumbach will also take part in a public ZFF Masters talk at the festival.
Baumbach’s credits include The Squid And The Whale, Frances Ha and Marriage Story. The latter received six Academy Award nominations, with Laura Dern winning the Oscar for best supporting actress in 2020.
He also co-wrote Barbie with Greta Gerwig, as well as Fantastic Mr. Fox and The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou with Wes Anderson.
Jay Kelly, which world premiered in main competition at the Venice Film Festival last month, is a satire on the Hollywood star circus starring George Clooney.
Previous recepients of the A Tribute to … Award include Edward Berger, Paolo Sorrentino, Wim Wenders, Olivier Assayas, Claire Denis, Michael Haneke, Oliver Stone, Maïwenn, and Luca Guadagnino
“With Noah Baumbach, we are honoring an auteur who has shaped US cinema for decades with his subtle insight into human relationships and his precise powers of observation,” said Christian Jungen, festival director of the ZFF. “Jay Kelly is, in my opinion, one of the outstanding films of the year and one of those works that, looking back, will be regarded as a masterpiece.”
