Neon has acquired worldwide rights to Adrian Chiarella’s queer horror Leviticus, in the first major deal to emerge from this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
Neon will release the Australian film theatrically later this year in the US, and represent international sales rights on the title. The deal is reportedly in the seven-figure range, for Chiarella’s debut feature.
Leviticus debuted in the Sundance Midnight section last Friday, with subsequent screenings on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, and a final Sundance outing this coming Friday.
The film sees two teenage boys attempt to escape a violent entity that takes the form of the person they desire most – each other.
Joe Bird, Stacy Clausen, Jeremy Blewitt, Ewen Leslie, Davida McKenzie, Nicholas Hope, Zahra Newman and Mia Wasikowska lead the cast.
Talk To Me producers Samantha Jennings and Kristina Ceyton of Causeway Films produce the title, with Hannah Ngo; with Causeway also financing the film, alongside US firm Salmira Productions.
The deal comes days after Neon boarded Alex Ullom’s second feature 4x4: The Event, which will begin production later this year for Spooky Pictures’ Roy Lee and Steven Schneider, Divide/Conquer’s Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath, Haley Johnson and Evan Barber.
Sundance runs until Sunday, February 1; other titles with interest for deals include Olivia Wilde’s The Invite, and Eleanor Wilson and Alex Huston Fischer’s Wicker.
