Middle East distributor and producer Front Row Filmed Entertainment and London-based sales and financing outfit Rocket Science are partnering to launch YALLA YALLA, a Dubai based film and television company focusing on Arabic language entertainment.
The company will initially develop, package, produce and finance content for the Middle East and North Africa region, with a view to expanding beyond that territory. The aim is to produce four feature films and two television series in the next eighteen months.
Former Wild Bunch head of acquisitions Rita Dagher is serving as a creative producer for the new outfit – she is in the process of setting up the company’s Dubai presence.
Front Row, with its partner Kuwait National Cinema Company, will look to tap into its regional relationships with filmmakers and financiers, while Rocket Science will harness its relationships in the US and Europe.
Gianluca Chakra of Front Row said they well looking to establish YALLA YALLA as “the leading content player in the Middle East as the MENA market expands”.
“YALLA YALLA will provide a home for a new wave of exciting and diverse filmmakers with unique voices to tell their stories and embrace all kinds of genres and formats. Our intention is to encourage filmmakers to go into new directions and be part of, not just the Arab world, but also an international one,” added Dagher.
Front Row recently appointed a new COO as it looks to ramp up its drive in development and production.
