CineMart, the co-production market of International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), has selected four projects to take part in Safe Harbour, a new market initiative for stateless and at-risk filmmakers.
Safe Harbour, which will run as a pilot edition during CineMart (February 1-4), highlights projects in development from emerging filmmakers who have experienced displacement or forced migration. The list of four projects is below.
Each will take part in a tailored series of meetings with producers, funds and industry partners. In preparation, the filmmakers will be given online mentorship, followed by an in-person workshop ahead of CineMart, aimed at preparing and strengthening their project materials for market participation.
Safe Harbour has been developed in collaboration with the Athens-based International Emerging Film Talent Fund (IEFTF) and is supported by Creative Europe MEDIA 360.
Meanwhile, IFFR Pro is expanding its emerging producers’ workshop Rotterdam Lab with a new Creators Lab for writers and directors. The Lab has also announced five further producers selected for Rotterdam Lab through an open call. For 2026, the participants are: May Jabareen (Palestine), Hiba Louis (Lebanon), Iván Moscovich (Argentina), Natália Pavlove (Czech Republic) and Audrey Restetuta Tanya (Kenya).
Additionally, 2026 will see the IFFR’s Hubert Bals Fund team host a celebration of all alumni and supported filmmakers at the HBF Reunion Day.
