EXCLUSIVE: Highland Film Group has announced a raft of deals on shark survival thriller The Black Demon: Atlantis which has begun production in Colombia and stars Jack Kesy from Hellboy: The Crooked Man and Julio César Cedillo from Sicario.

Rights have gone to Vertigo Releasing for the UK and Canada, Leonine Studios for Germany, Rialto Distribution for Australia/New Zealand, Mis.Label for Scandinavia, IIF for Italy, Nikkatsu/AMG for Japan, and Kinolights for South Korea.

Further deals have closed in the Middle East (Falcon Films), Taiwan (Moviecloud), Portugal (NOS Lusomondo), Benelux (Three Lines Pictures), Poland (Mediasquad), Turkey (Chantier Films), South Africa (Filmfinity), Indonesia (PT Prima Cinema), former Yugoslavia (Blitz Film), Romania (Karpat Media), Philippines (Pioneer Films), Malaysia (Antenna Entertainments), Thailand (Movie Copyright), Czech Republic/Slovakia (Foxx Media Group), Malaysia (Antenna Entertainments), and India (Lionsgate Play). PictureWorks has acquired airline rights.

Carmen Cabana, the cinematographer on Rosario and TV series Ms. Marvel, is directing the follow-up to the 2023 theatrical release. This time around the titular beast wreaks mayhem at a Pacific Ocean maximum security prison as an undercover agent investigates inmate deaths.

Harold Torres, Vanesa Restrepo, and Anthony Del Negro have joined the cast and Aaron Benjamin, Boise Esquerra, and Cabana co-wrote the screenplay. Javier Chapa is producing for Mucho Mas Media alongside Arianne Fraser, Delphine Perrier and Caleb Ward for worldwide rights holder Highland Film Group, which co-finances with Mucho Mas Media.

The Black Demon: Atlantis has received the Colombian CINA incentive offering a tax discount certificate for 35% of the total in-country investment. Jaguar Bite serves as the production service company.
