Josh Greenstein, who currently shares the role of president of the Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) film group, is reportedly in talks to join Paramount after its merger with Skydance.

Greenstein is set to take on a role that has yet to be defined but is expected to extend beyond Paramount’s film group.

Skydance and Paramount did not respond to requests for comment on the long-rumoured move and Sony declined to comment.

Greenstein and Sanford Panitch have been presidents of SPE’s Motion Picture Group since 2019. Previously, Greenstein worked for five years overseeing Sony’s global marketing campaigns on releases including several installments in the Spider-Man and Jumanji franchises as well as 28 Years Later. Before Sony he spent nine years at Paramount in advertising and marketing positions, having joined the studio from Dimension Films.

At the new Paramount, Greenstein would join a management team including Dana Goldberg, the Skydance chief creative officer who is set to lead the studio’s film group, former Netflix executive Cindy Holland, current Paramount co-CEO George Cheeks and former NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell.

Skydance CEO David Ellison will serve as CEO of the new Paramount once the $8bn merger, finally approved last week by US regulators, closes. Paramount said last week that closure is expected on August 7.
