In what would be the first major worldwide acquisition of a 2026 EFM sales package, Sony is understood to be in talks to acquire rights to the horror project Skeletons starring Brie Larson in a deal understood to be in the $25m range.

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions’ early interest in the project emerged five days ago after a FilmNation presentation at The Ritz-Carlton in Potsdamer Platz in Berlin.

JT Mollner’s upcoming horror is being produced by JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot alongside FilmNation’s mainstream mid-budget genre label Infrared, and Assemble Media.

Skeletons centres on the perspective of a young boy who suspects his parents are covering up his mother’s true nature. The involvement of Infrared suggests the project has franchise potential.

FilmNation, WME Independent and CAA Media Finance represent rights. Filming is being lined up for this summer.

The EFM has been a productive hunting ground for Sony’s acquisitions group. Two years ago the company picked up worldwide rights to Kogonda’s fantasy romance A Big Bold Beautiful Journey starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell, as well as international rights to Celine Song’s Materialists.
