‘The Maharaja And Me’

The shared history of Britain and India is set to be given a personal touch in The Maharaja And Me, a film project that will be unveiled within the Documentary Co-Production Market, part of the 2025 Waves Film Bazaar in Goa (November 20-24).

The film is a UK–India collaborative feature developed and created by Sue Graham and set to be directed by Ben Crichton, winner of a Bafta TV award for BBC Two factual series Britain’s Forgotten Slave Owners.

The Maharaja And Me follows Graham, a UK producer with family ties to colonial India, and Jyoti Singh, a descendant of the royal house of Patiala. Together, they embark on a journey across northern India to uncover their shared past and the family connection that binds them.

Their story also explores the legend of the Cartier-crafted Patiala Necklace, once the most valuable jewel in the world, as well as identity and the enduring legacy of empire.

The project has been nurtured by Infilmpact, a media company led by Karl Hillbrick, and arrives at Waves Film Bazaar with a stated budget of $300,000, with 70% of that secured. The producers aim to use their meetings in Goa to secure final stage finance, distribution and broadcast partners, and an international sales agency.

“Film Bazaar is the perfect forum to connect with partners who share our passion for stories that bridge continents and generations,” said Hillbrick.

Infilmpact has credits that include the recently completed Ukraine-set documentary feature Our Colors Never Fade, directed by Jim McSherry and executive produced by Emmy Award-winner Artem Lysak.
