Screen’s reviews editor Nikki Baughan and senior international critic Wendy Ide discuss Sundance documentary Seized and Berlinale Perspectives debut The Red Hangar by Chilean director Juan Pablo Sallato. The latter is “a really lean, elegant, taught piece of storytelling” about the 1973 coup d’état led by Augusto Pinochet, told through the eyes of an air force captain, according to Ide.
Later, host Wendy Mitchell catches up with Screen’s senior US critic Tim Grierson, who reveals his favourites from Sundance, which include the “divisive” romantic drama Carousel starring Chris Pine and Jenny Slate.
“It’s a really, really touching and, I think, smart film,” says Grierson. “[Director] Rachel Lambert is somebody who doesn’t spoon-feed the audience.”
The Screen Podcast is produced and hosted by Wendy Mitchell and edited by Ellie Calnan. New episodes every other Thursday.
