EXCLUSIVE: Montreal-based h264 has acquired world sales rights to Rémi St-Michel’s action drama Toy Gun Bandit (Faux Gun Bandit) in the run-up to its world premiere in Toronto International Film Festival’s (TIFF, September 10-20) Centrepiece programme.
h264 will also handle the 2027 Canadian release on the feature about a youngster who brags about stealing from a convenience store and gets pulled in by his new friend to rob a bank, when things quickly unravel and the guns are real.
Les Productions Spécimen’s Jeanne-Marie Poulain serves as a producer and collaborated with h264 when they sold 2023 Venice and TIFF selection Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person.
A cast of newcomers features Félix Munger, David Beaudoin, Brandon Truong, Chau-Phi Van Quirion, Jenny-Mark Turmel-Pichette, Mathieu Bourret, Josée Tremblay and Marc-Antoine Munger, Sara Montpetit, and Lou Thompson.
Toy Gun Bandit is produced with financial support from Quebecois agencies CALQ and SODEC, Telefilm Canada, Quebecois film cooperative Spira, Studios Grandé, and the City of Québec.
The feature shot in Quebec and is the first to be written and directed by St-Michel after he directed his 2019 debut, the comedy Before We Explode. Of TIFF he said, “It is a must-attend event for the film industry and an exceptional opportunity to launch the film. I am also delighted that it will be screened the very next day at the Festival de Cinéma de la Ville de Québec.”

Toy Gun Bandit will premiere on September 10.
