‘They Always Come at night’

Victor Català’s They Always Come At Night and Lucky Cerruti’s Boxcutter will receive their world premieres at Manchester-based horror film festival Grimmfest (October 12-14).

Català’s film, set during a family dinner in Galicia in 1976, centres on a paranoid neighbour who brings a warning: hooded figures are emerging from the mist, triggering what escalates into a ritualistic siege. The feature is part of Spanish Screams, a new programme spotlighting contemporary Spanish cinema.

Cerruti’s Boxcutter stars Evan McFarland, Kyle D. King, and Michael Lake. The plot follows siblings Rob and James and their partners as they travel to the funeral of their estranged father where a search for a place to eat takes a violent turn.

The festival will open with a 4K restoration of John Carpenter’s The Fog, marking the film’s 45th anniversary and as part of a lifetime achievement award for Adrienne Barbeau. The US actor, known for her roles in many of Carpenter’s films as well as Grease, Someone’s Watching Me!, and Swamp Thing, will be in attendance and deliver a Q&A. 

International premieres at the festival include Kurt Marrin’s The Room Below. Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Alyssa Sutherland star in the film which centres on a grieving mother befriending a boy who could replace her late son.
