Mk2 Films has boarded world sales rights on Gaza war documentary NAZA ahead of its world premiere in Competition at the Venice Film Festival next month.
Israeli filmmakers Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor direct the film, two of the four co-directors of 2025 best documentary Oscar winner No Other Land.
Filmed at night on the rooftops of Tel Aviv, NAZA purports to reveal in detail the systems behind Israel’s calculated mass killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza.
The title is a military acronym euphemistically used by Israeli intelligence to indicate the number of civilians that it expects will be killed in an airstrike.
The film builds on reports first published by the Israeli-Palestinian publication +972, the Hebrew-language outlet Local Call, and The Guardian between 2023 and 2025.
The film is produced by UK producer James Wilson for his JW Films, with The Guardian and in association with Placeholder Films and Unseen Hand. Jonathan Glazer, director of the 2024 best international feature Oscar-winning The Zone Of Interest, which Wilson produced, is an executive producer on NAZA.
“Beyond the power of its testimonies and the rigou of its journalistic approach, the film struck us for the cinematic excellence of its form,” said a statement from mk2 CEO Nathanael Karmitz and mk2 Films managing director Fionnuala Jamison. “The intelligence of its direction resonates deeply with mk2’s history as a film company whose mission has always included giving audiences, through cinema, the keys and tools to confront the truth of the world we live in, however difficult that truth may be.”
NAZA completed the Venice Competition lineup as a late addition as the only documentary in the section. The Venice Film Festival runs from September 2-12.
