EXCLUSIVE: French director Vincent Munier’s documentary feature Whispers In The Woods, a visual ode to nature and its poetic soundscapes, has sealed deals in key territories for The Bureau Sales.
Rights in English-speaking territories have gone to Dartmouth Films for the UK and Ireland, with Access Cinema taking on the Irish theatrical release, while Madman will release the film in Australia and New Zealand.
“Vincent Munier’s unforgettable film leaves a deep and lasting impression on all who see it,” said Matt Hird, head of distribution at Dartmouth Film.
The Bureau Sales has also sold the film to Spain (Surtsey), The Baltics (Estin Film), Bulgaria (Art Fest), CIS (Universal), Denmark (Film Bazar), Greece (One From The Heart), Hungary (Mozinet), the Netherlands (Periscoop Film), Poland (Against Gravity), Portugal (Risi Film), Romania (Culoar Films), Slovenia (Fivia), Czech Republic (Bohemia), Maghreb (Cine 7eme Art) and O’Brien International for airlines.
Haut et Court will release the film in France on December 17.
In Whispers In The Woods, Munier heads deep into the forest to capture the beauty of nature surrounded by lynxes, bears, owls, deer and river creatures. It is also a personal exploration of his relationship with his own father and son in the process.
It is produced by Paprika Films, Kobalann Production, France 3 Cinema and The Bureau.
Munier co-directed the 2022 Cesar-winning film The Velvet Queen with Marie Amiguet about the quest to film a rare snow leopard and has received the Eric Hosking award for Wildlife Photographer of the Year three times.
“Vincent Munier’s new project is proving, once again, that a documentary can truly travel everywhere,” said The Bureau’s head of sales Clementine Hugot. “Sales are taking off across the world, a US deal is currently in discussions and it’s incredibly encouraging to see a form of cinema that is often sidelined finding such strong resonance internationally. It’s worth remembering that his previous film surpassed €2.8m at the worldwide box office.”
Previously announced territories include Germany’s Pandora, Austria’s Filmladen, Italy’s Wanted, Benelux’s Cinéart, Switzerland’s Filmcoopi and Fivia in the former Yugoslavia.
