Summit Entertainment has picked up all rights to Rachel Renée Russell’s bestseller series and is in negotiations to reunite with producer Karen Rosenfelt of Sunswept Entertainment.

Dork Diaries follows 14-year-old Nikki Maxwell as she navigates her way through new school, mean girls and first crushes.

The series has sold around 13m copies worldwide. The seventh book is due out this summer followed by the eighth in autumn.

“Summit Entertainment bringing Dork Diaries to life is a dream come true,” said Russell. “My book series could not be in more capable hands. My fans and I are super-excited to see Nikki Maxwell and her dorky world come to life.”

Rosenfelt produced all five instalments of The Twilight Saga franchise with Summit. Her credits include Marley & Me, Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters, Yogi Bear and The Book Thief.
